Hรญbrides: Small Embodied Data is a three-day meeting organized by the Axolot Collective, aimed at promoting research and artistic production with a strong focus on exploring the various forms and implications of technology in contemporary culture. This first edition of the meeting is being held in collaboration with the DARTS research group (Design, Art, Technoscience and Society) of the UOC (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya), with whom we aim to open spaces for dialogue around two central themes:
- AI and Small Data Sets: The use of small data sets raises awareness of the ethical, environmental, and bias-related challenges inherent in big data sets. This emphasis goes beyond the creative realm: it aligns the project with broader principles of responsible technological engagement through ethical and sustainable data practices.
- Embodiment and Electronic Interfaces: The body as a theme in artistic practices can unfold various perspectives on subjectivity and identity. From an approach that seeks to understand the technologies we use and inhabit, this theme aims to encourage reflections that link sensitive methodologies (thinking with and about the body), electronic circuits, open-source technologies, and issues concerning contemporary socio-technical conditions.
The activities of Hรญbrides will take place at UOC (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, Poblenou Campus) and other collaborating spaces.
We are seeking proposals for experimental performances, oral presentations, and Algorave performances with the following characteristics:
::: Oral Presentations :::
Oral presentations of artistic practices and/or academic research lasting between 10 and 15 minutes. These contributions will take place at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya and will be broadcast live.
::: Experimental Performances :::
Performative proposals that engage with the present body, stage, and technology, lasting 20 to 30 minutes. The projects must be complete and may have been previously presented. These performances will take place in a polyvalent space.
::: Algorave Performances :::
Proposals up to 30 minutes long. Algoraves are events where music generated by algorithms is danced to, including the practice of live coding, as well as other approaches to controlling and interpreting generative music. This call seeks proposals for a hybrid Algorave, where codes, electronic circuits, AI with small databases, and the body in movement. This Algorave will take place in a club-type space at night.
Participation Conditions:
General:
- Proposals must show a close link to the meeting’s thematic axes.
- The use of and/or reflections on open processes and technologies will be positively valued.
Oral Presentations:
- Oral contributions will be broadcast online via the video platform of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya and will be part of the open video archive.
- Four oral contributions will be selected for each theme.
Experimental Performances:
- Performances must include a technical rider.
- The Axolot.cat team will provide technical support during the setup and takedown of the performances.
- A support fee of โฌ200 will be provided, and an invoice must be submitted.
Algorave Performances:
