Maria Choir

Installation

By Maria Arnal

Presented at: Exhibition โ€œAI: Artificial Intelligenceโ€ at the Center for Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB).
October 18, 2023 โ€” March 17, 2024

Awarded: Honorary Mention S+T+ARTS Prize, Ars Electronica 2024.

Description: Interactive installation where a synthetic reproduction of Maria Arnal’s voice harmonizes in real time what the visitor sings, forming a hybrid human-digital choir that also evolves over time. Visitors can also record their voice to contribute to the creation, through the training of an AI model, of a new collective synthetic voice that will give rise to a piece of music.
This work reflects on how voice synthesis models are radically changing our understanding of singing voices in the contemporary music panorama.

Technical description: Axolot carried out programming tasks, variational inference and transformer-based voice cloning, channel synchronization and interactive design.
